I bought a bouquet of flowers yesterday. This one has large sunflowers, multiple dahlias in different colors, snapdragon, lilies, and other flowers. It’s a strikingly beautiful bouquet.
I love supporting our local growers and farmers. I’ll be back next week to get another one.

On Tuesday I spent the afternoon with a friend. We walked around Lake of the Isles. The crimson and golden hues presented plenty of photo opportunities. Here’s are some photos from the afternoon walk. Big thanks to my friend for stopping and waiting for me to capture all the images.

It was such a gorgeous weekend we were blessed with here in the Twin Cities. Temperatures in the upper 70’s and low 80’s, barely any wind, and plenty of sunshine. Did you get an opportunity to get out and enjoy it?
Goodbye to September, hello to October. Have a wonderful Monday!

I love this week’s theme from the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. There are so many opportunities to capture people in the midst of their everyday lives. What do you see in your life? Here are things I saw on a recent trip to San Francisco and back here at home.

This is my second food photo this week and it’s unusual for me to post food photos. I’ve been the recipient of home-grown vegetables this week and I can’t resist the brilliant colors and the beauty of this food. My own basil plants are growing like weeds. Many of us use our homes for cooking and eating. This is the perfect time of year to cook, making the most of the summer harvest. Bon appétit!

A friend gave me this tomato from her garden. I love tomatoes. This was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. It’s not everyday I get a green tomato; I loved the color as much as the taste.

I came across these baby birds on Sunday. There are four of them in the nest. They’re at a downy stage and ever so cute. It won’t be long before they take their virgin flight.
Mom is very protective. She swoops in and aims for you when you get close to the nest. I find myself instinctively ducking so she doesn’t hit me in the face. I was lucky on Sunday as she didn’t get so close and I was able to take a number of photos. I think it may have been because several other people were stopping to see them and take pictures. One woman asked, “Those aren’t real, are they”? Yes, they most definitely are real.

I was on Nicollet Island yesterday afternoon. The Minneapolis Queen paddle wheeler came into view while I was on one of the bridges. Climb aboard for a fun summer activity. Paradise Charter Cruises offers public and private cruises on the Mississippi River through historic downtown Minneapolis.

Washington Dulles International Airport
Wall of trees overlooking the terrace
This was the view that greeted me as I arrived on the ticketing level of Dulles last week. The window itself is beautiful; it’s further enhanced by the terrace beyond. It wouldn’t be nearly as pretty if it overlooked a parking lot. Also noteworthy is the reflection of the window, greenery and sky on the floor, all serving to double this picturesque setting.

Week Beginning June 1, 2012
This week’s challenge is to go out and take a photo rather than dig through our archives. I headed out with my camera, not exactly sure where I’d go or what I’d photograph. I took a lot of pictures and it was tough deciding which ones to post today. I finally settled on these garden shots because they aren’t the oft seen rose, tulip or other popular flower photos. (Yes, I have rose photos as well.)
There’s also a photo taken on the way to the garden–of a scene just begging to be photographed!
These flower photos were taken at the award-winning Lyndale Gardens by Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Lyndale Park Gardens encompasses four distinctive gardens: Rose Garden, Annual/Perennial Garden, Peace (Rock) Garden, and Perennial Trial Garden and Hummingbird/Butterfly Garden.

This was a fun way to start my day last Friday. I drove up next to this antique car with the penny-farthing on the back. The car was perhaps a Model A or a Model T. I positioned myself behind it once the road went to two-lanes. At that point, I remembered I had my cell phone and snapped a few photos. I loved seeing this car and bike and traveling down the road with it. I only wish I’d had my other camera with the zoom lens. Happy Friday everyone!

Tomorrow I will be attending a friend’s bridal shower. It will be held at the family’s home. We celebrate many of life’s passages in our homes. It’s only natural.
These two photos are slightly out of focus and yet they likely will make an impression. If you’re a married woman, this photo will perhaps take you back to the day or days you were shopping for your dress, as well as the day you were married. If you’re engaged, you may be in the midst of shopping for your dress. If you’re single, you may be dreaming of the day that you’ll walk down an aisle, flanked by friends and family, wearing such a dress, and ready to begin a new chapter in your life.
Regardless of your marital and dress status, life itself –and love– is for celebrating. Each day offers something to be grateful for and a reason to celebrate. Tomorrow we’ll raise our glasses and say “Cheers!” and wish the bride-to-be a life full of love and happiness.
May today find you of great cheer and ready to celebrate.
Ciao!
